In 2005, he was admitted to the Department of Music of Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan, where he studied under Chen Junwei. In 2012, he was admitted to the Zurich University of the Arts (Zürcher Hochschule der Künste) in Switzerland, where he obtained a master's degree in music performance in 2014 and a highest-level soloist diploma in music performance in 2016, where he studied under Anne Jelle Visser (professor of tuba at Zurich University of the Arts and former principal tuba of Zurich Opera House).
During his stay in Switzerland, he was the guest principal tuba of the Zurich Opera House (Opernhaus Zürich), the Zurich Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Reto Suhner Jazz Orchestra, the Zurich Jazz Orchestra (Zürich Jazz Orchester), etc. He has worked with conductors such as Yu Feng, Chen Lin, Li Xincao, Yang Yang, Fabio Luisi, Bernard Haitink, Franz Welser-Möst, Marco Armiliato, Thomas Zehetmair, Christian Lindberg, etc. From 2014 to January 2017, he was the contracted principal tuba of the Musikkollegium Winterthur Orchestra. In February 2016, he was invited to perform a solo performance in the small hall of the Tonhalle-Zürich. In April of the same year, due to his excellent graduation examination results, he was invited by the Musikkollegium Winterthur Orchestra to perform Ralph Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto. In 2018, he was invited to perform Michael Daugherty: Reflections on the Mississippi with the Tsinghua Military Band. In 2019, he participated in the performance of a thousand-person band in front of Tiananmen Square to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
He has been invited to teach master classes at Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Shenzhen Art School, and the School of Music of Chongqing Southern Translation College of Sichuan International Studies University. In 2018 and 2019, he was invited to serve as an artist at the Hong Kong Tubamania Tuba Art Festival. The students he guided have won many awards in domestic and international competitions. In 2019, the Vastness Brass Quintet of the Central Conservatory of Music, which he guided, won the silver medal in the brass quintet project of the 14th Jeju International Brass Competition. In 2021, the undergraduate and affiliated middle school tuba main course students and brass ensemble students of the Central Conservatory of Music, which he guided, won many awards at home and abroad, such as the 5th International Moscow Music Competition, the 1st New Zealand International Brass Competition (NZIBC), the 1st China Orchestra Network & Orvis International Music Festival (the 2nd China Orchestra Network Wind Music Grand Prix) and the 8th China International Bass Brass Art Festival" tuba professional group, the Asia-Pacific Youth International Instrumental Music Championship, etc. In 2023, Zhao Zijun, an undergraduate student of the Central Conservatory of Music under his guidance, won the second round of the 17th Tchaikovsky Music Competition, which was a historic breakthrough for Chinese tuba on the international stage.
